ABOUT THE BOOK: A tribute to Barbara "Bobbie" Keith, better known as Bobbie the Weathergirl during the Vietnam War, when she landed the role of weathergirl for Armed Forces Network Vietnam in Saigon while working for USAID from 1967 to 1969.
Bobbie brought comic relief to the troops as she lifted morale with her nightly TV weather shows, becoming one of the war's biggest TV celebrities.
As troops tuned in, Bobbie received bags of mail from the guys, requesting pictures, and that she visit their base camps. Her visits to the troops from Pleiku to Dong Tam brought a ray of sunshine to the men out in the boonies.
Pia Bows has compiled a collection of Bobbie's letters and photographs, preserving another piece of military history, and tells of Bobbie's time after Vietnam.

"There is a fascinating new book called 'Bobbie the Weathergirl' about Barbara Keith who volunteered to do the weather for the American Forces Vietnam Network (AFVN) in Saigon during the war. She became in a year the TV girl friend for thousands of American troops. She was blonde and beautiful and a reminder of home to countless GIs. The book features the myriad number of letters penned to her requesting a photo.
Author Pia Bows has written a meticulously researched book capturing the essence of Bobbie's vibrant personality. 'Bobbie the Weathergirl' is an easy read and is perfectly organized with a fine flow."

"While books on the Vietnam War generally focus on combat, this has a broader perspective focusing on a then popular war zone personality. Bobbie the Weathergirl helped give American troops some comic relief. She knew how to make GI's laugh and would return letters to her Vietnam War Fan Club. Those letters have now been preserved.
I am honored to encourage people to read this informative and well written book."
